Elbert Jay Benton (1871-1948) was a professor of history. The collection consists of correspondence relating to the life of Archibald M. Willard and to the history of Willard's paintings; unpublished account of "The Spirit of '76 -- How Many Versions?"; and a typescript copy of Benton's article "The Movement for Peace Without a Victory During the Civil War" (1918).
